Our History
Our organization was created in 1st September 2019, as a community base organization (CBO).
My name is Isha Rabiatu Sesay, Co-founder and Chief executive Director, Co-founder Emmanuel Dawo and Alieu Sesay of the Sahid Autism Foundation in Sierra Leone.
I am a mother of three children; I reside in the United State of America. I gave the Foundation a name, after my first child Sahid Sesay. I gave birth to Sahid in Sierra Leone in 2006. The birth of Sahid brought so much joy to our family, as he was my first son. And was also the first grandchild to my mother. In Siera Leone we do not have the knowledge how to handle children with Autism during those times. We tried various means in out Africa cultural ways to salvage the situation, but Sahid's continued to have detorating health, sleepless nights, restless days, uncontrollable behavior, matches, and a poor appetite. I left Sahid with my mother when i moved to the States in 2007. My mother tried everything to help my son but he was not getting better. I decided to bring him to the States because of the improved medical system. I thank God; Sahid is doing much better now. This improvement prompted me to want to help family back home with children who have autism or similar behaviors. Parents do not have any medical advice or guidance. Children with this condition in Sierra Leone are negleted, have no faith, no family loving or caring for them. This condition brings about divorce and husbands blame the wife for the child's condition. Mother are left with no support.
